Cameron Diaz makes devastating career announcement after ending 11 year hiatus

Cameron Diaz has announced that she won’t be starring in any more romantic comedies.
The actress, 52, is best known for her comedy roles after first getting her big break in the Jim Carrey film, The Mask.
After this iconic role in 1994, she went on to star in several successful rom-coms, including The Holiday, The Other Woman, What Happens in Vegas, The Sweetest Thing, There’s Something About Mary, and My Best Friend’s Wedding.
She has now returned to the screen after a decade-long break for Netflix’s critically panned action comedy Back In Action.
However, the rom-com queen has announced that she’s ready for a major change.
Joining her Back In Action co-star Jamie Foxx to promote their new film on Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby, Cameron admitted: ‘I’ve left my “rom-com” era and I’m now in my “mom-com” era.’
The actress was asked about this following her interview in Empire where she made a similar comment about her career.
‘No more rom-coms, only mom-coms.’
Although she didn’t explain what she meant by ‘mom-com’ fans can assume that she now prefers to appear in comedy films as a mother as opposed to a romantic lead. Although perhaps she’s swearing off the ‘rom’ entirely and will be sticking only to ‘com’!
The comment came after she admitted that she plans to be selective about the roles she takes on after more than a decade-long hiatus.
‘I don’t know how I view it. It’s hard to say,’ she said when asked whether her return to screens was for good.
‘If I say it then it becomes this thing. I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to. I’m not defining anything. I’m just open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given moment.’

The star quit Hollywood for 11 years and attributed the break to taking time to raise her family.
In an interview with Still Watching Netflix, she explained: ‘[In 2014] I was not keeping up with any kind of training. I did nothing public. I said no to everything.’
She added: ‘I [was] being a mum and living my day-to-day. I [was just] trying to stay alive just like every other mother. I’m just trying to keep it going.’
Cameron and her husband of 10 years Benji Madden have two children, a daughter named Raddix, 5, and a 10-month-old son named Cardinal.

Cameron revealed that her return to the screen was entirely down to her co-star Jamie Foxx.
She told Empire in the interview: ”I thought that if I was going to come back and do a movie, the only person I’d come back and do it with would be this guy.’
‘Seriously. I had other opportunities along the way and I was always saying, “No. I’m not doing it, I’ve told you… What? Jamie asked? Jamie? Oh, I can do a movie with Jamie!”’
Back in Action is available to watch on Netflix.
